Recommended Reads for National Bookstart Week 2017 (5-11 June)

Written by · Published May 16, 2017

This year, National Bookstart Week runs from 5-11 June and the theme is ‘Let’s Explore Outdoors’. Why not reserve some books from their outdoor-themed book list?

Our libraries will also be holding special events during the week, where pre-schoolers and their parents/carers can listen to stories, take part in outdoor-themed activities and pick up free books. See your local library’s page or contact them to find out what they have planned.

Look and Say What You See in the Countryside, by Sebastien Braun

In association with the National Trust, this book has lots of beautiful pictures of natural environments in different seasons with wildlife to talk about with your child.

Kiki and Bobo’s Sunny Day, by Yasmeen Ismail

Join Kiki and Bobo on a day at the seaside in this sweet and creative lift-the-flap book. Why isn’t Bobo as excited as Kiki about jumping into the sea?

A Busy Day for Birds, by Lucy Cousins

Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!, by Nick Sharratt

It’s a wild windy day and Timothy Pope is back in the park, looking through his telescope after the classic Shark in the Park! … What can he see in the blustery park? Could it really be a shark?

Teddy Picnic, by Georgie Birkett

We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury

A classic rhyming story that has been loved by families for over 25 years, with beautiful illustrations. Join the family as they swish swash through the grass and splash splosh through the river to find a bear. What will they find?
