The Colour of Shadows

See The Colour of Shadows in our catalogue

When Saffron discovers a shocking family secret that has been hidden from her for ten years, it shakes the very foundations of her life. Leaving home without a plan, she discovers herself and finds that the people who love her and come to her rescue are the ones she least expected.

These include Tom. Where Saffron is bright, colourful (particularly orange!) and used to living in luxury, Tom is mysterious, quiet, full of secrets and living on the very edge of poverty. While Tom is hiding a heart-breaking secret, he will try to do anything for Saffron, even if it takes him a while to realise it.

I loved The Colour of Shadows. It explores homelessness, extended families and loss, with the core messages not to make presumptions about the people who love and want to help you, and that ‘God is a selfless act’ towards others.

This is the first book I have read by Phyllida Shrimption but it certainly won’t be the last - in fact, I have already reserved Sunflowers in February.
